Examinations
Assessing teeth for tooth decay is only one aspect of a meticulous dental examination. We start by asking if there are any past or recent problems or sensitivities with your teeth, which gives us a brief insight into your oral health. If you have any concerns, we will try and target that problem as soon as possible.
We will then review medical history and check the oral condition. We also offer advice on how to maintain your dental health at home and dietary considerations. We recommend coming in at least once every 6 months for a
dental examination.
We will look for
- Tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Loose and/or broken fillings
- Infection
- Signs of abnormality
- Plaque, tartar and stain levels
Furthermore, if necessary, diagnostic x-rays may be taken as they can help identify any additional problems. Following the dental examination, our staff will formulate an individualized treatment plan with you for any identifiable problematic findings.
Digital X-Ray
Dental x-rays are important diagnostic tools that can provide insight into hidden information that may not be detected by the naked eye and can help develop a more accurate treatment plan. Without x-rays, some problems may not be precisely detected.
Digital x-rays are efficient and have low radiation. Routine examinations may include 2 to 4 bitewings (x-rays where top and bottom teeth bite together), which is less than one day of natural background radiation. It is also the same amount of radiation exposure from a 1-2 hour airplane flight. At Dr. Danny Wong’s Dental Office, we take extra precautions to limit your exposure to radiation by using lead apron shields to protect your body.
Scaling (Professional Teeth Cleaning)
Similar to our dental examinations, we recommend coming in at least twice a year for a dental cleaning. Although brushing and flossing at home are essential, sometimes it might not be enough to remove all the plaque and tartar. Over periods of time, dental plaque, which is the leading cause of tooth decay and gum disease, can build up on your teeth.
With regular dental cleaning, problems including tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss can be prevented or minimized. During the cleaning, we can also remove most of the stains that discolour your teeth, leaving you with a brighter smile. Our professional hygienists ensure that the cleanings are carried out as comfortably as possible for patients, while making your teeth looking and
feeling clean and healthy.
Gum Treatment
Early stages of gum disease involve the inflammation of the gums commonly due to plaque and tartar. Symptoms of gum disease can range from gums bleeding when brushing to tooth loss if severe.
The milder form of gum disease is known as gingivitis and can usually be remedied with proper oral hygiene and regular professional cleaning. However, if untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis (a more severe form of gum disease).
Periodontitis is very destructive as it can lead to bone loss around the tooth, resulting in loose teeth and potential tooth loss. Periodontitis can cause permanent damage and requires more extensive treatment.

Root Canal Treatment
Bacteria can sometimes get into the tooth via a deep cavity, crack or trauma, making the tooth infected or damaged.
Symptoms where a root canal treatment may be needed may include

- High level of sensitivity with hot or cold food or beverage
- Tooth pain that keeps you up at night
- Lingering pain

Night guards available at Dr. Danny Wong Dental Office are custom-made guards that cushion your teeth, preventing teeth from grinding against each other, and are worn at night. They have a superior fit and are made in a professional dental laboratory after an impression of your teeth is taken.
Night guards are recommended for patients who experience grinding at nighttime. Sometimes patients do not even realize that they are grinding, however long term grinding can cause permanent damage on the tooth, headaches and relevant muscle and jaw joint inflammation or pain due to the excessive force on teeth, jaw joints and relevant muscles.

Subsidized Kids Dental Services
Free dental care is available for children that are eligible for the Healthy Smiles program. It is a free dental program for suitable children and youth who are 17 years old and under. Healthy Smiles Ontario covers a wide range of services including dental examinations, x-rays, preventative care and treatment.

Pediatric Dentistry

and that’s why we recommend visiting the dentist at least once every 6 months for a checkup and dental cleaning. Regular dental visits are very important for maintaining healthy teeth and gums and between these visits, it is crucial that you keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy as well! Routine exams may also identify tooth decay, gum disease, any other potential problems early to prevent a larger scale treatment later on.
